Arizona Morning Briefing, 9-22: No Sunshine Subpoenas, Turning Point Behind Democrats For Biggs, Kelly Still Deciding on Presidential Run, and More

•NO SUNSHINE SUBPOENAS FOR NOW–After yesterday’s announcement that former Judge Andrew Gould will lead the election-motivated show trial, we mean investigation, into Governor Hobbs’ connections with Sunshine Residential, we learned yesterday that Senator Jake Hoffman, who is in no way driving the inquiry, has called off Sept. 29 Senate Government Committee hearing and there will be no subpoenas to Hobbs and the other witnesses,  “at least for now.” She would have gotten away with it, too if it hadn’t been for you meddling kids!

•REDKEY, NOT LOW-KEY–Police arrested David Redkey, the Green Party candidate in AZ-3, Saturday on allegations that he threatened a Superior Court judge and an attorney. Court records show two threatening-or-intimidating counts and one computer-tampering count. The court issued a $150,000 bond and scheduled a hearing for next Thursday. Prosecutors said the messages referenced guns. FOX 10 reports the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says Redkey acknowledged making the threats when detectives questioned him. The Arizona Green Party, which really knows how to pick ’em, already lists his candidacy as “actively opposed.”

•TURNING POINT FOR BIGGS–As suspected, it turns out that the blue “Democrats For Biggs signs appearing around greater Phoenix are from Turning Point PAC–Arizona. The Democrats supporting Biggs, mostly online, are actually former Democrats who changed affiliations years ago. Isn’t anyone loyal to party any more? How are we supposed to trust these politicians?

•KELLY IS COY, AS USUAL–In a story we could have written on any day in the last two years, Senator Mark Kelly now says he won’t decide whether to run for president until after the 2026 election, while confirming, “I’m thinking about it.” We’re sure he’s been going to New Hampshire for the foliage.

•THEY WILL ALWAYS LOVE HER–In addition to deciding what to charge the Salt River Project for wastewater, the Tolleson City Council has declared that Sept. 25 will honor the late Dolly Parton. “Dolly Parton Day” will promote childhood literacy, generosity, kindness, acceptance and dignity, qualities that the world has long associated with Tolleson. The city’s official meeting notice even specifies proclamation colors: pink and gold. As Dolly might have said, well bless their little hearts.
