Arizona Lawmakers Shine at ‘Keep Arizona Free’ Summit

The Arizona Free Enterprise Club’s 4th Annual Keep Arizona Free Summit on Saturday, August 24, 2024, was a powerhouse gathering of conservative thought leaders and activists. The event drew an enthusiastic crowd eager to hear from prominent speakers who champion the cause of liberty and free markets in Arizona.

Keynote speaker Nigel Farage, known globally as “Mr. Brexit,” delivered a stirring address that resonated with the audience. Farage, a key architect of the Brexit movement, cautioned attendees with a stark warning: “If America fumbles, we all fold.” His message was clear—America’s leadership in the global fight for freedom is crucial, and grassroots efforts are essential to secure victory this coming November.

Brandon Tatum, a former Tucson police officer and co-founder of BLEXIT (a grassroots movement for “black” conservatives), closed the event with an equally passionate speech. Tatum, a significant conservative voice and podcast host, declared, “Arizona is home, and I want to make sure it remains FREE!” His words underscored the importance of preserving the state’s values and resisting any attempts to undermine them.

James T. Harris, the charismatic host of the “Conservative Circus” radio talk show based on Arizona’s 550 KFYI, emceed the summit. Harris is known for his engaging style and for featuring many conservatives on his show, many of whom were present at the event. The summit saw a strong turnout from AFEC’s partners, board members, and influential supporters, including AZGOP Chair Gina Swaboda, who is backing the influential non-profit organization.

Among the elected officials in attendance were Rep. Neil Carter (R-15) and Rep. Alex Kolodin (R-3). Both brought their young children to the early Saturday event, demonstrating the importance of involving the next generation in the fight for freedom. Former Republican legislators Justine Wadsack, Anthony Kern, and Justin Olsen also made appearances, with Olsen celebrating his recent primary victory and potential return to the legislature.

Outgoing Rep. Justin Heap (R-10), who is stepping away from the legislature after successfully winning his primary for County Recorder against “never-Trumper” Stephen Richer, posed for photos with the Teen Reps, a group of young volunteers who played a significant role in supporting the event.

Also in attendance was Rep. Michele Peña (R), a rising political star from Yuma’s District 23, expressing her commitment to the cause.

“The Free Enterprise does a lot to support the legislature and to keep Arizona Free,” she said.

Peña, who faces a tough re-election battle with significant Democratic opposition, remains resolute in her mission. “I’m here to fight for our values and ensure that my district’s voices are heard. That’s why it’s important to vote Republican this November,” she added, underscoring the high stakes of the upcoming election.
