Helping to shape the future of Arizona’s Republican party

Yidi Chen, a Phoenix native and longtime member of the Arizona Teenage Republicans (TARs), has been elected as the organization’s new State Chairman. Chen’s journey with TARs began at the age of twelve, inspired by his older brother Yibo, a former Teenage Republican. Over the years, Chen has held several leadership positions, including Vice Chairman of the Southeast Valley Chapter and Treasurer for the State Executive Board.

“When I first joined, I felt really uncomfortable going to Republican events and speaking in front of dozens of people,” Chen recalled during his acceptance speech. “But I was pushed by my dad, Jinhui. As I spoke more and more, it became easier to do and less frightening.”

As Treasurer, Chen oversaw the organization’s finances and played a key role in fundraising efforts, including for the club’s trips to the Republican National Convention and Washington, D.C. “Going to D.C. was not only a fun and worthwhile trip, getting to know my fellow TARs better, but it opened up my eyes on how this nation thrives,” he said.

Chen’s vision as Chairman includes expanding TARs’ influence across Arizona by establishing new chapters in counties like Yavapai, Pima, and Apache. “I will carry the torch of our club, spreading our influence all across this great state,” he declared. “We need to raise strong leaders like you and me to carry the legacy of our free country.”

He emphasized that his bid for Chairman was not about personal recognition. “I’m not running for Chairman to have recognition and show off. I believe true leadership isn’t about standing tall, it’s about lighting the way.”

Chen now aims to empower others the same way he was empowered. “I want to motivate everyone here to do the same—spreading the word of the Teen Republicans,” he said. “I’ve seen how this club has shaped people in this room in such brightness.”

TARS is planning a trip to Washington, D.C., this summer and raising funds to cover the expenses.

In addition to fundraising, TARS invites party leaders, elected officials, and community members to encourage teenagers to join the organization. Membership offers young conservatives community involvement, leadership development, and political engagement opportunities.
