Kari Lake, the leading Republican contender for Kyrsten Sinema’s soon-to-be-vacated US Senate seat, is piggybacking on her primetime RNC speech delivered last Tuesday, July 16, 2024, with a post-convention letter sent to supporters.
The second day of the Republican Convention featured an all-star lineup of Senate candidates billed as “the next U.S. senators,” including Lake, who remains tremendously popular with her base. In her speech, she sharply criticized the Democratic Party and its policies. She blamed President Biden and Democrats for allowing criminals and drugs to flood into Arizona, leading to tragic fentanyl-related deaths.
“Because of them, criminals and deadly drugs are pouring in, and our children are getting their hands on it and dying,” she said, highlighting the emotional stories of parents losing children to fentanyl poisoning.
During her stemwinder of a speech, Lake called for stronger border security, with the crowd bursting into a “build the wall” chant. She then denounced “Bidenomics” while expressing nostalgia for the Trump-era economy. Her appearance at the convention demonstrated her continued prominence within the GOP, as she was introduced as “the next Senator of Arizona,” despite her looming primary runoff against Republican challenger Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb.
Kari Lake’s letter highlighted one part of her speech that received a raucous response. It read, “Almost everyone loved my speech today, except those in the fake news. They’ve outstayed their welcome. For the past eight years, they’ve consistently lied about Donald Trump and his supporters. They distort everything—from Joe Biden’s health to the economy and the border.”
Lake also claimed, “The good news is every day, more and more people are turning off the fake news and waking up to the truth about the disastrous Democrat policies pushed by Joe Biden and his favorite Congressman, Ruben Gallego.”
A clear example of Lake’s justified outrage towards the mainstream media’s dishonesty is the outrageous headlines after the assassination attempt against former President Trump, ignoring the attempt on his life and falsely claiming that he simply “fell.” CNN’s headline read, “Secret Service rushed Trump off stage after he falls at rally,” (See image below).
Lake has been an outspoken critic of the media even prior to her near-miss loss to Katie Hobbs in the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial race. She is also an unwavering supporter of Pres. Donald Trump, who endorsed her current run against Representative Ruben Gallego for Sinema’s Senate seat. Lake and Gallego are running neck-and-neck, with polls vacillating between the two well within polling MOEs.
