Happy Election Day! All our problems will go away once this is over.
•KOLODIN WANTS AN EMERGENCY DECLARATION TO GET VOTERS TO THE POLLS–State Reps. Alexander Kolodin and Cody Reim formally asked Maricopa County supervisors Monday morning to declare a local emergency in Rio Verde Foothills, where weekend flooding washed out roads that the county doesn’t ordinarily maintain. Kolodin, the Republican nominee for secretary of state, argues that emergency action is necessary to ensure residents can reach polling locations. Gov. Katie Hobbs declared a statewide flooding emergency Monday afternoon, releasing $200,000 in emergency assistance. Assistant County Manager Zach Schira said the county was developing a solution for Rio Verde Foothills voters.
• MARICOPA COUNTY AND DOJ HAVE A MEETING ABOUT THE ELECTION MONITORS–After last week’s controversy over a Justice Department election monitor with a prior election-related conviction, Maricopa County officials announced Monday that they had held a “very successful meeting” with DOJ representatives. County officials said they didn’t anticipate further problems.
•COMPARE THAN DECIDE–The Arizona Agenda has discovered a remarkably error-prone campaign mailer supporting Republican House candidate David Richardson in Legislative District 12. Its opening linguistic offense: “Compare THAN decide.” Before anyone blames Richardson, the publication checked: His campaign wasn’t responsible for the mailing. The Arizona Republican Party sent it.
•DICE ROLL–Republican congressional candidate Daniel Butierez, who’s challenging Democrat Adelita Grijalva in Congressional District 7, has invited the public and press to join him at Casino Del Sol tonight. He plans to have dinner with his wife and possibly do some gambling while awaiting election results. Butierez carefully notes that the casino has not endorsed his campaign. Election forecasters rate the district solid Democratic and Butierez has raised $234,000 to Grijalva’s $2.56 million. It’s gonna be a hard eight.
