School Board Member Rooks Says Peoria Police Requests Reinforcement After School District Raid

Peoria Unified School District (PUSD) board member Heather Rooks tells Arizona Globe that Peoria police sought help from other local agencies to review documents seized during a weeklong raid at the district’s Glendale headquarters.

12News corroborated Rooks’ tip, reporting that it had obtained records “show[ing] more specifically what investigators took during the second search of the district headquarters in July.”

While carrying out a second search warrant related to claims of sexual misconduct involving two teachers from Centennial High School, Peoria PD collected several documents—including records found in locked shredding boxes. The department is now seeking assistance to sort through all the papers and records that it confiscated in July 2026.

As of publication, it hasn’t publicly named the law enforcement agencies.

Rooks told 12News, “Every board member should be asking what was in that shredding bin…If there were items related to the Centennial investigation that were shredded and kept from not only the board, but the community and the police department, to me, that is despicable, absolutely despicable.”

PUSD officials didn’t comply with the first search warrant issued earlier this year after people raised concerns about mandatory reporting laws. In December 2025, a 200-page police report named former teachers Hailey Beck and Angela Burlaka as alleged perpetrators of sex crimes involving the same male student. The report also points to former Centennial principal Scott Hollabaugh and current principal Darian Schoolcraft—who served as athletic director under Hollabaugh—as having prior knowledge of Beck’s inappropriate behaviors with students on and off campus.

According to public records obtained from the district and shared online, former district superintendent Dr. KC Somers reprimanded Hollabaugh. However, the internal investigation “didn’t rise to the level of reasonable suspicion of abuse.” Thus, the district didn’t place him on administrative leave and didn’t notify police.

Hollabaugh—who chose to address complaints directly with Beck—resigned from the district in May after serving as principal for eight years.

The PUSD Governing Board voted 3–2 to appoint Schoolcraft despite the ongoing police investigation, with members Rooks and Janelle Bowles opposed.

When asked about mandatory reporting violations during a Mike Broomhead interview, Board Clerk Becky Proudfit stated that the district had no record of victims reporting to administrators or police. When Broomhead pointed out the possibility that school leadership ignored students’ complaints, Proudfit claimed to “see red” because students were discussing Beck and Burlaka on TikTok. Furthermore, rather than admonish the alleged perpetrators or remind employees to act professionally, Proudfit lectured parents about their children’s online activity.

As of publication, the Maricopa County District Attorney’s Office has not filed charges for Beck or Burlaka.
