Trump’s campaign held a lively debate watch party in Phoenix last night, packed with supporters and featuring strong representation from the Phoenix Trump 47 team and Latinos for Trump. Sheriff Mark Lamb (R) headlined, delivering powerful opening remarks that set the tone for the night. Lamb compared his time as sheriff under Trump to the current administration, calling the difference “night and day.” Lamb stressed the importance of voter turnout, noting the low participation in recent primaries. He urged Americans to get involved, reminding them that the country “won’t be saved in Washington” but by “enlightened men and women who cherish freedom” and are committed to voting for “God, Family, and Freedom.”

In the VP debate, J.D. Vance delivered a commanding performance reminiscent of the visual impact of the historic Nixon-Kennedy debate. Just as Nixon’s refusal to wear makeup and his pale, uncomfortable appearance contrasted sharply with Kennedy’s calm demeanor, Vance’s confident delivery contrasted with Tim Walz’s less composed appearance on the split screen. While Nixon performed okay on radio, Kennedy won over television viewers, a dynamic echoed in this debate where Vance’s presence dominated the visual stage, much like Kennedy did in 1960.

State Senator Jake Hoffman (R-LD15) posted on X/ Twitter, “One of the MANY things this VP debate is making clear is that this is not your typical election. America can either reclaim freedom by electing @realDonaldTrump & @JDVance. Or it can wither away into a totalitarian, socialist hellhole. The choice is yours.”

Before the debate, Representative Austin Smith posted, “@JDVance represents a group of Americans that so many of us are part of. He has a chance tonight to articulate how we have felt and what we’ve been through as middle class Americans – the farming families, the roughneck families, the truckers, the plant workers, the shipmen, the contractors, the service workers, the HVAC techs and more who’ve been neglected by Washington DC for generations and the ruling class’ disdain for working families. I know our next Vice President is going to make us proud. #MAGA”

At the watch party, the Arizona Globe spoke with Monica Yelin, executive director of the Hispanic Liberty Alliance, who was impressed with Vance’s performance. Yelin, who is also a seasoned campaign manager for several high-profile campaigns, expressed her admiration for Vance’s honesty and his ability to explain why he changed his mind about Trump. She appreciated Vance’s avoidance of personal attacks and detailed discussions of immigration and current issues. Yelin believes that “after this debate, many Americans are going to change their minds about Vance and Trump and vote for them.” She added that Vance’s focus on core values such as home ownership, energy independence, lower prices, childcare, and pro-family policies will resonate strongly with the Latino community.
